MED Responsible Vendor Program provider

In September 2015, Colorado Compliance Consultants was announced by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division as the second approved program provider statewide.

This half-day class is a certification training program designed for persons working in retail marijuana stores and medical marijuana centers.  Upon successful completion by all required owners, managers, and staff, the business will be designated a Responsible Vendor, as defined by the MED.  The class covers relevant topics, including the regulatory structure, checking IDs, spotting false IDs, responsible use and possession, records requirements, security and surveillance, marijuana's effects on the body, compliance with METRC, waste disposal procedures, common violations to avoid, and many other applicable rules/laws governing marijuana licensees.

How can the responsible vendor designation BENEFIT my business?

While the goal of the program is to prevent violations, the designation adds a layer of protection should your store or center face a penalty.  Should the MED or a local licensing authority initiate a disciplinary or administrative action against a licensee who is a Responsible Vendor, the designation is considered a "mitigating factor" when imposing penalties and sanctions.  In other words, the designation can reduce the severity of a penalty such as a fine or suspension.  See CRS 12-43.3-1102 below for the full statute. Also see MED Rules M 408 and R 407 for minimum standards and core curriculum topics.

The designation provides your business a competitive advantage and reflects your commitment to the highest caliber of responsible practices.

The course also ensures that Colorado licensees have the knowledge and resources necessary to adhere to compliant practices, while also reducing regulatory risk and liability.

Where is the class offered?

Classes are offered throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and Western Slope at a location convenient for your business.  Depending on the number of participants and facility, we can offer the course on-site or at a location of your choice.

Who should take the class?

To receive the designation, all owners, managers, and staff involved with the handling and selling of marijuana and marijuana products must successfully complete the class.  Anyone who works or plans to work in a store or center can greatly benefit from this training.

Each participant's certification is valid for 2 years.  Any new employees should successfully complete the course within 90 days of hire for the business to maintain the Responsible Vendor designation,

The class is also open to other interested parties seeking a more thorough understanding of Colorado marijuana regulations, specifically those applicable to stores and centers.
